The urgent need to address the dual challenges of global food security and environmental sustainability necessitates innovating cropping systems. Researching and developing sustainable crop and pasture systems represents producing sufficient and high-quality food with less environmental impacts. However, the development and implementation of these systems is complex, requiring comprehensive, holistic and deeper understanding of multi-faceted interactions between crops, soils, microbiome and its surrounding environment. This symposium is essential to facilitate the exchange of cutting-edge research and context-dependent practical application among leading experts in this research field.

The 1st International Symposium on Sustainable Crop and Pasture Systems (SCPS) will be held on August 19-23, 2024 in Dali, Yunnan Province. The symposium is hosted by the College of Resources and Environment Sciences at China Agricultural University (CAU), organized by the National Academy of Agriculture Green Development and Erhai Academy of Agriculture Green Development, and co-sponsored by Wageningen University (the Netherlands), Westlake University (China) and other domestic and international institutions, as well as supported by the Program for Innovative Intellectuals in Higher Education Disciplines (‘111’ Program), Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering (FASE) sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Agricultural University and Higher Education Press, and other international academic exchange platforms. Nearly 20 international experts from 11 countries (the Netherlands, France, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Denmark, USA, Spain, Australia, South Africa and China) will attend this symposium. This symposium aims to provide international academic communication and debate opportunities, to bring together the latest research progress in the field of plant-soil interactions, theory and application of sustainable cropping systems, and to discuss the future international hotspots in this field, providing theoretical and technological support for the sustainable development of China's and the world's agriculture.
